I don't know why I should write this, but I think it needs to be said. We have gone from the silly season to the ugly season, and I'm afraid it is going to get uglier. Samantha Power's "monster" comment infuriated me at first, and I think she must be just cringing over it right about now. It echoes and ups the usual "bitch" accusation, but with pretty dangerous implications. Not the least of which is the prospect of a pretty younger woman viciously attacking an older woman who has "earned every wrinkle." Come on. The patriarchy doesn't need that kind of help.
On the other side, I just read this morning that Obama is being accused of being the anti-Christ. That was to be expected. (John McCain was basically accused of the same thing during the 2000 primary in SC.) And it is just as dangerous as Clinton being accused of being a monster. What we are seeing is is the Bush-Cheney-Republican party working its magic: by the logic that creates the middle-aged white male as the "standard," everyone else is profoundly flawed. I really wish the Democrats would stop riding the Republican bus.
I'm not going to waste my time trying to make any pro-Hillary arguments here, as I know that I am in the minority, and the atmosphere has been pretty poisoned lately. I don't see any room for discussion on the candidates here unfortunately. There hasn't been any room for discussion about Democratic candidates since well before Edwards dropped out, when the Edwards' posse had pretty much taken over the recommended list--oh, and I really like John Edwards, too, and I would have gladly voted for him had he been the Democrat's choice.
But only one person can be the nominee. And I think it should be Hillary Clinton. She is tough. She is a fighter. She is smart. She is experienced. She's been there, done that. Oh, and politics ain't beanbag.
